It's back! Save some dollars while shopping for clothing and footwear in CT at the end on August.
The State of CT is once again offering a tax free week running Sunday, August 21 through Saturday, August 27, 2016.
CT sales tax is 6.35%.
Qualifying items include clothing and footwear with a cost of $100 or less.
From the Department of Revenue Services Website, this is how "Clothing and Footwear" is defined:
The exemption during the “sales tax holiday” week for articles of clothing and footwear, as described in Conn. Agencies Regs. § 12-426-30, includes most articles of clothing and footwear intended to be worn on or about the body. However, certain items are excluded.
According to the CT Department of Revenue Services, “The exclusion applies to each item of clothing or footwear sold, regardless of how many items are sold to a customer on the same invoice. However, for any item that costs $100 or more, sales tax applies to the entire price of that item.”
For purchases costing $100 or more, sales tax will be calculated on the full cost of the item.
If an item is on sale the reduced sales price including any coupons or discounts will be used to determine if the item is taxable.
It will be a great week to shop in general as many retailers in the state will be running sales that coincide with the tax-free week.
CT is one of 16 states that offers the tax holiday period. Shopping in another state? Check out these other states that offer tax free weeks. Some have come and gone, but many are still some scheduled.
