I have seen this happen again and again. A Facebook user is not satisfied with service in a business and immediately stress on immediately) posts a derogatory comment on Facebook. Other users chime in and it can become a very nasty thread with the outcome being harmful to the business.
I saw this happen today with a local business. The patron was unhappy with the product she purchased and instead of speaking with a manager and getting it resolved, posted a nasty comment on Facebook and it produced support for the business while at the same time plenty of comments stating they will stop going there as well.
The business that was named is a small local business that has served the community well for about 20 years. They provide jobs and support the community. If there is a problem, I am quite certain they will rectify it. After all, misunderstandings can happen with anything. I have no personal affiliation with this particular business, but I do buy their products and see their area involvement firsthand.
The problem with posting negative comments on Facebook is that many times they are emotionally driven and just like people who attack others in emails, can be done without having to engage in face-to- face conversation, which most times will resolve the issue. Instead, online comments that are directed at businesses of an incendiary nature can and will harm the business.
Most businesses will always try to rectify a situation where the customer is unhappy. Ever heard of "The customer is always right?". Not being given the chance to do so before a negative comment gets posted is just wrong.
I ask all to THINK before they post. THINK how a bad comment can hurt the business. Make an attempt to work it out with management first. I am sure that in this case, if the patron had spoken with a manager, the problem would have been resolved.
This applies to blog posts, Twitter, and all those online review sites too. When I think of it, anyone who engages in this type of tear-down behavior is really hurting themselves as well.
How about posting when you have POSITIVE EXPERIENCES with a business? That’s what I do. After all, aren’t we all in this together?
